Book now for this instalment of our monthly lunchtime lectures, part of an annual programme of talks held at Dr Johnson's House, kindly sponsored by The Fleet Street Quarter BID.

Join us over lunch to hear Pauline Chakmakjian, MA discuss Dr Johnsons' biographer James Boswell and his fascination with Freemasonry.

Freemasonry is an often misunderstood subject despite the fact that many notable figures in history became members of the organization, including the biographer of Dr Samuel Johnson, James Boswell of Auchinleck. Although speculative Freemasonry in the form it takes today stems from the concept of the Georgian voluntary association as well as moral improvement societies of the time, we shall examine Boswell's participation with the fraternity regardless of his reputation for drunkenness and the other forms of dissipation he was known for.

Pauline Chakmakjian, MA Pauline Chakmakjian, MA is the author of The Sphinxing Rabbit trilogy, which has masonic symbols and ideas within them. She has been a lecturer on a variety of subjects, including Freemasonry, for more than 20 years. After the talk signed copies of The Sphinxing Rabbit trilogy will be available for purchase from the author at a special price of £50 (cash only).
