Meetings and Corporate Events

The right space can deliver the results you want from important conversations. What place better captures the inspiring spirit of determination and endeavour, than the House in which the first proper English Dictionary was written by hand, taking almost nine years? Samuel Johnson worked away here in the years that London was fast becoming a global financial, commercial and cultural hub, and today we celebrate how his work had a profound impact on this.

Our 17th-century historic townhouse, being situated in the heart of the City, is a world away from the day-to-day distractions of the office – giving you and your colleagues the head-space you need for that all-important conference, away day, strategy development session, or business negotiation.

Our two largest rooms, the first-floor Withdrawing Room and the third-floor Garret, can accommodate a variety of different layouts to suit your needs, whilst our smaller rooms are perfect as breakout areas. Please see below for details.

We are delighted to offer you a short introduction to Dr Johnson’s House as part of your booking.

And, if you'd like to do a recce and see the space, we'd be delighted to show you the House!

Interior scene at Dr Johnson’s House showing a framed black-and-white portrait of an 18th-century man with powdered hair and a fur-trimmed coat, holding a scroll inscribed with Latin text. The portrait is identified as John Ellis. To the left, a reflective glass cabinet door captures a blurred reflection of two visitors and a window, with a blue-and-white porcelain bowl visible inside the cabinet. The green-painted walls and period furnishings evoke the historic character of the room.
