Small Projects

We are a small, independent charity with a very tight budget and limited staff numbers. This makes charitable funding for even modest initiatives essential. Small but mighty, these are projects that would make a real difference and you can help to make them happen!

Sponsor a book

Our collection includes over 1,000 books by or relating to Johnson and some of them are in desperate need of attention.  We are seeking to raise a total of nearly £10,000 to fund the professional conservation of twenty 16 th , 17 th  and 18 th century books that have been identified by our Curator as being in urgent need of care. So far, we have been awarded £2,000 in conservation grants towards our total and any additional sums would be helpful. UV protection on the windows

Renewing the UV film on our windows is important not only because it is more ecological, it is also vital to protecting the House and our collection from harmful sunlight. In order to do this, a grant of £9,000  is required. Your support toward this project would be very much appreciated. Enhancing accessibility

We were fortunate to have an access audit conducted with the support of the City Bridge Foundation. While installing a lift in a Grade I-listed building will take a major investment, we have a long list of projects that can be undertaken to improve accessibility that will not be expensive, from improving contrast on wayfinding signs to producing a new virtual tour for those unable to visit in person.
