Lunchtime Lectures - Dr Johnson's House Series

Tuesday 24 November

12.30pm - 1.45pm

£3.96 (booking required)

Book now for this instalment of our monthly lunchtime lectures, part of an annual programme of talks held at Dr Johnson's House, kindly sponsored by The Fleet Street Quarter BID.

In this talk, GJ Williams takes us through the life and London Dr John Dee - the detective in her novels, and a real-life Tudor polymath. He rose to fame in the Court of Elizabeth but his was not a quiet life – fame soon turned to infamy. The London in which he lived was a cosmopolitan hive of Court nobles, merchants, sailors, priests, and ne’er-do-wells. It was also undergoing significant change, plots and scandals with every Tudor monarch.

GJ will take us through her research, tell us about John Dee the man and take you on a walk through the sights, smells and scandals of Tudor London.

Books will be on sale at the end of the talk and GJ Williams will kindly donate her royalties to Dr Johnson’s House.
