Dr Johnson's Alphabet

Dr Johnson's Alphabet X_edited.jpg

Alphabet cards based on unusual and obsolete words from Dr Samuel Johnson’s original Dictionary of the English Language which, was first published in 1755. These cards are designed to get adults and children exploring language and learning new words together. They also support children with letter recognition and
the development of literacy skills.

Each card shows a letter with a word and picture that match on one side and the definition for the word on the other side. As well as the letter cards there are information cards so you can explore the history of the Dictionary of the English Language and find out more about Dr Samuel Johnson and some of the friends he lived with whilst he wrote the Dictionary.
