Filming and Photography

Welcome to our Grade 1 listed Georgian townhouse. Located just off Fleet Street, 17 Gough Square in the City of London is a remarkably untouched time-capsule from the Age of Enlightenment.

With original 17th-century features and an iconic history, it is a unique period backdrop for film and photo shoots, and talent interviews.

Our location in a quiet Square away from busy roads and traffic reduces the nuisance of unwanted noise interference with sound recording.

The five-storey property retains many of its original features, which include:

  • historic panelling

  • a fine open staircase

  • wooden floorboards

  • a quirky cellarette cupboard

  • coal holes

  • original 17th-century door handles.

  • The 18th-century front door still has its original anti-burglary devices intact, including a heavy chain with corkscrew latch and spiked iron bar over the fanlight.

All rooms in the House can be used, as can the chairs and window seats.

The Parlour

Situated on the ground floor of the House, this beautiful, wood panelled room with its original fireplace, is straight out of a period drama.

The Withdrawing Room

The first-floor Withdrawing Room provides an evocative backdrop. Overlooking Gough Square, the gallery room retains many original features, including wooden floors and window seats. It also features dividing doors to create two ‘Withdrawing Rooms’ - one for ladies, and the other for gentlemen – as was the norm in Georgian times.

With windows on three sides, the room is light-filled on summer evenings, and enchantingly atmospheric on winter nights.

The Library and Will Room

The book-lined Library with its old gold drapery, and the Will Room across the second-floor landing offer more intimate spaces for events such as talent interviews. Both rooms are quiet and well-lit.

The Garret

Where Johnson – and his assistants – compiled his famous Dictionary of the English Language. At the very top of the House, it is the real location of an 18th-century struggling writer’s garret!

Easy access by public transport and car/van

A few minutes’ walk from Farringdon and Chancery Lane stations in the City, we are easy to reach by public transport, including Tube, Rail, Thameslink and the Elizabeth Line. Vehicle access to the doorstep.
